Our annual “Drum Major Award” to recognize those individuals, organizations and businesses who, in the Foundation’s opinion, best exemplify Dr. King’s commitment and philosophy to scholarship, social justice, community service, civic affairs and business.
The awards will be presented at the Commemorative Luncheon on January 14, 2022.
We are currently accepting Nominations and Applications for the following awards:
Drum Major Award for Business:
This award is given to a local business that incorporates diversity in its hiring and promotions, provides financial support to diverse community based organizations, promotes employee participation in community sponsored events, and has a commitment to affirmative action initiatives.
Drum Major Award for Civic Affairs:
This award is given to a person who works in the public sector (elected, appointed or career service) and has tirelessly promoted the inclusion and advancement of minority populations in the public arena. This person continually addresses the social and economical problems facing the community.
Drum Major Award for Community Service:
This award is given to a person or group who volunteers their time and/or money in serving the community and who positively impact their constituents.
Drum Major Award for Social Justice:
This award is given to a person or group whose commitment to social justice for minorities, women, handicapped and others is unquestioned. This person or group should be recognized by the community as a “champion of equal rights.”
Scholastic Achievement Award:
Scholarships are given to African-American high school seniors who are college bound. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA and must provide a bio and one-page essay.
